‘Ender’s Game’ Author Orson Scott Card Labeled Bigot?

You may remember Ender’s Game for its stunning visuals brought to life in the 2013 film adaptation by Gavin Hood. But did you know that the author of this science fiction novel, Orson Scott Card, has published homophobic, transphobic, and racist propaganda? Here are seven proof about this Awful Author.

Orson Scott Card has argued to keep sodomy laws on the books to imprison gay people

Card published an article in 1990 arguing in favor of continued legal restrictions prohibiting homosexual sodomy in both public and private spaces in the United States. These laws policed male lover individuals by preventing them from openly identifying themselves as such, lest they find themselves facing charges of sodomy and up to twenty years’ imprisonment, as in the Bowers v. Hardwick 1986 trial. In Card’s article, “The Hypocrites of Homosexuality,” he addresses members of the Mormon Church and claims:

Laws against homosexual behavior should remain on the books . . . to be used when necessary to send a remove message that those who flagrantly violate society’s ordinance of sexual behavior cannot be permitted to r

—Suggests married heterosexuals should labor to overthrow a government that has marriage equality: “If America becomes a place where our children are taken from us by regulation and forced to attend schools where they are taught that cohabitation is as good as marriage, that motherhood doesn’t require a husband or father, and that homosexuality is as valid a choice as heterosexuality for their future lives, then why in the world should married people continue to accept the command of such a government? What these dictator-judges do not look to understand is that their command extends only as far as people choose to obey them. How long before married people respond the dictators thus: Regardless of statute, marriage has only one definition, and any government that attempts to modify it is my mortal enemy. I will act to destroy that government and bring it down, so it can be replaced with a government that will respect and support marriage, and help me raise my children in a culture where they will expect to wedding in their turn.”

Orson Scott Card isn’t playing with a full deck any more.It was well known that Card, acclaimed writer of Ender’s Game, arguably one of the finest YA sci-fi books out there, is against gay marriage. And not just quietly opposed. All in. He’s on the board of the National Organization for Marriage for crying out loud.

But then, recently, Card posted an incredibly delusional essay about how Obama will take over America. (The real thing is here, but read the summary on Slate it’s shorter and slightly less painful.) At one show, he says this:  “…Obama will put a thin veneer of training and military structure on urban gangs, and send them out to channel their force against Obama’s enemies.”

Oh and there’s my favorite bit about how Michelle Obama will run for president to serve as his puppet. (Really?) At the end of it all, Card says just kidding–but come on, you can’t just spew racist craziness and take it all back with a ‘JK.’

All this has made me a little ill. When I first read Ender’s Game, I knew nothing about Card, and frankly I didn’t look after. It was a great manual. And the autho

'Ender's Game' author Orson Scott Card responds to calls to boycott film

Author Orson Scott Card is finally speaking out after calls to boycott the production "Ender's Game," based on his award-winning novel of the same title, because of his anti-gay marriage views.

In a statement he mutual with Entertainment Weekly, he called the issue of lgbtq+ marriage "moot" and said his novel has nothing to do with the politics of the 1980s, when the best-selling book was written.

"Ender's Game" is set more than a century in the future and has nothing to do with political issues that did not exist when the book was written in 1984.With the recent Supreme Court ruling, the gay marriage issue becomes moot. The Full Faith and Credit clause of the Constitution will, sooner or later, give legal gravity in every articulate to any marriage contract recognized by any other state. Now it will be interesting to spot whether the victorious proponents of lgbtq+ marriage will exhibit tolerance toward those who disagreed with them when the issue was still in dispute.

According to The Hollywood Journalist, the film price $110 million to make. The highly anticipated movie -- which stars Harrison
