The frequency of straight women turning gay on television (6)
What accomplish Lauren Bloom from New Amsterdam, Teddy Altman from Grey’s Anatomy, Bradley Jackson from The Morning Show, Mabel Mora from Murders in the Building and now Keeley Jones from Ted Lasso have in common?
All these women characters have been presented at heterosexuals, with male lovers. And then the writers decided — I’ll put this bluntly, rather than tactfully — “let’s construct them gay.”
It’s a trend — now becoming a trope — that the ladies on TV discover their inner lesbianism. Dr. Lauren Bloom (Janet Montgomery) from New Amsterdam was introduced having been in a serious partnership with Floyd, a dynamic surgeon on the team. Along comes Leyla, a homeless woman she brings her into her residence (really?) and into her heart. Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) has had sexual relationships with nearly all the male doctors from Owen Hunt to Tom Koracick at the hospital. Her back story is that the love of her life is Alison, who died, but Teddy, still pining, named her daughter Alison. Seems like an offbeat account, considering her sexual history, but okay, we’ll go with it.

Selena Gomez and Cara Delevingne kiss on 'Only Murders in the Building' season 2, but some fans took issue with the moment
The first two episodes of "Only Murders in the Building" season 2 premiered on Hulu Tuesday, and fans of the mystery-comedy are already buzzing about a kiss between Mabel (Selena Gomez) and posh musician Alice (Cara Delevingne).
On "Framed," the second episode of the new season, Mabel arrives at Alice's chic downtown art gallery to identify that the painter has created a sculpture of her. Alice then instructs the tightly-wound Mabel to "destroy" the sculpture for a cathartic act of performance art.
The destruction seems to discharge something in Mabel, who's been flirting with Alice for most of the second season, and the two distribute a passionate touch in the midst of the gallery floor.
But while the intimate moment definitely seemed like a release for Mabel, some fans on Twitter took issue with Gomez's closed-mouth approach to the kiss.
"Selena just unclosed the mouth please," one fan wrote, while others called the kiss "so awkward" and "bland as hell."
