T.J. Osborne of Brothers Osborne Comes Out as Gay

Brothers Osborne's lead singer T.J. Osborne has come out publicly as gay. While family and close friends hold known for years, a new interview finds the 36-year-old songwriter talking about it for the first time.

Osborne spoke with Time about the decision, saying that in some ways coming out publicly is not a big deal because he's very comfortable entity gay. "I find myself being guarded for not wanting to talk about something that I personally don’t have a difficulty with," he says. "That feels so strange."

A list of gay country singers and songwriters finding victory as an artist on the mainstream level is short — Osborne becomes one of the very few signed to a major or large independent record labels. Brooke Eden, who just revealed she is gay in January, is signed to BBR Melody Group. Brandy Clark had previously been signed to Warner Music where her 2016 song "Girl Next Door" peaked inside the Top 40 on airplay charts.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- It was a special late hours for T.J. Osborne.

He and his brother John perform as the Brothers Osborne and won vocal duo of the year at the 2021 Country Melody Association Awards.

It was their fourth period taking home that trophy.

T.J. Osborne, who publicly shared for the first moment in February that he is queer , kissed his crush Abi Ventura after the win was announced whle his brother kissed his wife, Lucie Silvas.

"I tell you, every time we possess won this award, it has never, ever ceased to be extremely shocking," T.J. Osborne said.

Chris Stapleton was the big winner with six trophies and Luke Combs won the biggest prize with entertainer of the year.

He then thanked everyone, including the voters.

"It's been a crazy roller coaster of a year for us in so many ways, especially for me emotionally," Osborne said. "And to have you all support me, it really does experience like love wins tonight. Thank you."

Brothers Osborne's vocal duo of the year win at Wednesday night's CMA Awards was extra adorable for T.J. Osborne in one massive way. The singer, who came out as gay in February, got to bring his lover, Abi Ventura, to the awards show.

The couple even mutual a celebratory embrace before T.J. and his brother and bandmate, John Osborne, took to the stage for their acceptance speech.

Speaking to "Entertainment Tonight" after the show, T.J. admitted that he had some doubts about whether or not he should bring Ventura to the award demonstrate this year, saying "some of those fears sneak up."

But he didn't allow it stop him, adding, "I was like, 'I pray this doesn't form anyone uncomfortable, but this is how I feel.'"

T.J. Osborne, one half of sibling duo Brothers Osborne, discussed being gay for the first time in public.

"There are times when I think I've marginalized this part of me so that I feel improved about it...and I realize that it is a big part of who I am: The way I think, the way I act, the way I perform," he explained in a new interview with TIME. "God, think about all the times that we talk about care for, and write about love. It's the biggest thing we ever get to feel. And I've kept the veil on."

Osborne's coming out marks a historic moment for the genre, as he is now the first openly gay artist to be signed to a major country label.

"You know that thing -- remain for something, or you'll descent for anything? That sounds fancy something someone in country tune would say. But if you stand for something and it's not what they stand for, then they hate it," the singer, 36, added.
