We welcome the Oversight Board’s decision today, March 7, 2024, on this case which deals with a video posted to Facebook that contains a series of racist, anti-semitic, and homophobic meme images. Among other things, they allege Jewish control of the media, convey disgust at interracial relationships, show anti-Black and anti-gay slurs, and praise the Nazi military. The caption predicted that Facebook would eliminate the post.
Upon initial review, Meta left this content up. However, after the board brought the case to our attention, we determined the content violates our Detest Speech Policy, as laid out in the Facebook Collective Standards, and removed the content. Meta removes content that targets members of a protected distinctive group with, among other things, claims that “Jewish people control financial, political, or media institutions;” derogatory terms comparable to sexual activity; claims that a group of people are subhuman; and slurs.
There will be no further updates to this case.
Regulator fails to execute on religious charity’s homophobic, anti-vax memes
Scotland's charity regulator will not intervene in a Christian aid that the National Secular Society reported for making anti-vaccine and homophobic posts on Facebook.
The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) launched an analysis into East Kilbride Christadelphian Ecclesia after the NSS made a referral in February.
But according to the Daily Record, OSCR concluded that the views expressed by the aid "are in accordance with their religious beliefs" and therefore action cannot be taken.
OSCR said: "In line with the Equality Act, we will not intervene in the activities of religious charities seeking to promote their religious opinions unless their activities have the transparent and direct outcome of harming others or otherwise breach the law."
But the NSS has contended that East Kilbride Christadelphians' Facebook posts may cause impair by fostering homophobia and undermining general health messages, despite charities being required to serve a public benefit.

Nick Offerman Slams Anti-Gay ‘Parks & Recreation’ Meme: “Dumb F***”

Nick Offerman has criticized a right-wing media figure for turning a Parks and Recreation meme into an anti-gay slam.
Michael Flynn Jr. — son of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn — posted a clip of Offerman’s character Ron Swanson from the NBC comedy. In the clip, Swanson throws a terminal into a dumpster. In Flynn’s version posted on X, an LGBTQ+ pride flag was placed over the computer. Flynn wrote, “Good morning and Happy Sunday! … Just wanted to upload how I feel about ‘pride’ month.”
Offerman responded to the meme on Monday, writing, “Ron was best man at a gay wedding you dumb fuck. #HappyPride.”
In addition to his role on Parks, Offerman won his first Emmy for his acclaimed guest role on HBO’s The Last of Us in the episode“Long, Drawn-out Time,” where he played a gay survivalist who forms his first queer relationship with another man.
The role resulted in some backlash from some of his fans, an issue he addressed when he won an Independent Spirit Award
Millie Bobby Brown quits Twitter after anti-gay meme campaign
Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown has quit Twitter following a campaign of targeted homophobic abuse.
Anti-gay memes using the hashtag #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown were shared on the social media platform along with photoshopped images of the star, who is just 14.
One tweet includes a video of a car driving into protesters and includes the caption: "Millie Bobby Brown arriving at pride".
Another shows a picture of Brown looking out of a motorcar window with the caption 'Looking away from all the gay f**s xoxo'.
The British star now appears to have deactivated her verified account @milliebbrown which had nearly 2.3 million followers.
