Stevie Wonder apologises for ‘some gay people are confused’ remarks

Stevie Wonder has apologised after claiming in an interview that ‘some people who think they’re homosexual, they’re confused.’

The essence legend made the initial remarks during an interview with The Guardian published yesterday after he was asked about the issue of homophobia within the black community.

He said: "I think honestly, some people who think they're lgbtq+, they're confused. People can misconstrue closeness for love. 

"People can feel linked, they bond. I'm not saying all [gay people are confused]. Some people have a craving to be with the same sex. But that's them."

However, the 62-year-old has since issued a statement of apology to The Advocate for his comments:

"I'm sorry that my words about anyone feeling confused about their love were misunderstood. No one has been a greater advocate for the power of love in this world than I; both in my life and in my music. 

"Clearly, love is treasure, between a guy and a female, a woman and a man, a woman and a woman and a man and a man. What I'm not confused about is the earth needing much more love, no abhor , no prejudice, no bigot

Stevie Wonder is clarifying his previous comment to the Guardian that "some people who think they're gay" are "confused."

The legendary singer made the statement to the mag in an interview, after he was asked if he was surprised about the media frenzy caused by Frank Ocean's gay revelation.

"I think honestly, some people who think they're male lover, they're confused," Wonder said. "People can misconstrue closeness for romance. People can feel connected, they bond. I'm not saying all [gay people are confused]. Some people have a desire to be with the same sex. But that's them."

On Saturday, Wonder apologized for his comment, telling E! News, "I'm sorry that my words about anyone feeling confused about their love were misunderstood."

Stevie Wonder Clarifies Comments on Frank Ocean’s Sexuality

Stevie Wonder issued a statement this weekend clarifying comments he made earlier in the week regarding Frank Ocean‘s sexuality, MTV reports. In an interview with the Guardian, the soul veteran had appeared to ask the authenticity of the younger singer’s attraction to another man, which Ocean had disclosed on Tumblr in July.

While praising Ocean’s work, Wonder told the Guardian, “I think honestly, some people who ponder they’re gay, they’re lost . . . People can misconstrue closeness for love. People can touch connected, they bond.”

Stevie Wonder, 62-year-old performer, is apologizing for his comments about homosexual people existence confused.

Wonder was recently questioned about singer-songwriter Frank Ocean entity open about his homosexuality in an interview with the Guardian. While Wonder said he did not feel all gay people were confused, he seemed to insinuate that some of them were confusing their bond for love.

"I think honestly, some people who consider they're gay, they're confused. People can misconstrue closeness for love," Wonder said. "People can perceive connected, they bond. I'm not saying all [gay people are confused]. Some people have a desire to be with the similar sex. But that's them."
