Matt Damon Says Ben Affleck Gay Rumors 'Put Us in a Weird Position'
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have prolonged been a definitive Hollywood bromance. Now, Damon is sounding off about rumors that their association has been more than just friendly.
"When Ben and I first came on the scene there were rumors that we were same-sex attracted because it was two guys who wrote a script together," he tells The Guardian, referring to the Academy Award-winning script for Good Will Hunting, which they co-wrote.
"I know. It's just like any piece of gossip… and it put us in a weird position of having to answer, you know what I mean? Which was then really deeply offensive. I don't want to, prefer [imply] it's some sort of disease – then it's like I'm throwing my friends under the bus," he continued. "But at the time, I remember thinking and saying, Rupert Everett was openly lgbtq+ and this guy – more handsome than anybody, a classically trained player – it's tough to make the argument that he didn't take a hit for creature out."

In the movie, Hunting Amy, the actor puckers up for a kiss with Jason Lee. In the 1997 adoration , Affleck's character is in cherish with a lesbian, but his professional partner, played by Jason, begins to get jealous, concerned he may be left out to dry. After all, it becomes clear that he's in love with Ben's character. At one point, when Ben's ethics confronts this reality, he plans a kiss on Jason to prove a point.

While the film is a bit of a light-hearted comedy, Ben said he saw a much deeper message, noting, “At the time, what I thought about it was that it compassionate of alluded to a spectrum of sexual orientation because to me it was very suggestive around the homosexuality between the two friends.”

If Liberace were alive today, everybody would love his tune and nobody would protect what he did in his private life."
Still, Damon is set to participate gay in the forthcoming HBO biopic, "Behind The Candelabra," in which he portrays Scott Thorson, the long-term lover of Liberace (Michael Douglas).

The thespian spoke on The Howard Stern Show about their divorce, explaining, "We grew apart. We had a marriage that didn't work. This happens, with somebody I love and respect, but to whom I shouldn't be married any longer." He also claimed he would "probably still be drinking" if they didn't get divorced. "Part of why I started drinking alcohol was I was trapped," Affleck said. "I was like, 'I can't leave because of my kids, but I'm not cheerful, what do I do?' And what I did was drink a bottle of scotch and fall asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution."
