Amy Winehouse was an English singer and songwriter famous for her profound, soulful voice and musical style that mixed multiple genres.
Born in 1983 to Jewish parents in England, Winehouse took an interest in music, theater, singing, and jazz from an in advance age. After playing around with her brother’s guitar at age 14, Winehouse began writing her own music. By age 19, in 2002, she had procured professional inclusion and by 2003, she had released her jazz-influenced debut studio album, Frank , which peaked at #3 on the UK charts, going triple platinum.
Winehouse’s short career was as prolific as it was acknowledged. Her second studio album, Back to Black (2006), strike #1 in the US, and went 16x platinum in the UK. She also released two live albums, five extended plays, 15 singles, three video albums, and 14 music videos. Her music has sold more than 20 million albums , and earned numerous accolades, including six Grammy Awards (and another two nominations). She also won a Brit Award (and another seven nominations) and an MTV Award (and another nine nominations). Amy Winehouse is the newest member of the 27 Club, joining Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain as artists who will forever be 27. Unfortunately, the tragic death of Amy Winehouse has been an opportunity for a litany of jokes, the most cliché of which quickly comes to mind: “guess she should acquire gone to rehab.” Ms. Winehouse was open about her bisexuality and was not only a club favorite at many queer gyrate spaces, her homosexual fandom was expansive across the Internet and evidenced by her regular appearance on mix CDs from one new queer kid to another. Her death is a tragedy on many levels.
While I find the jokes and snide comments about Amy Winehouse’s death to be insensitive and offensive I also recognize that we do not recognize how to chat about death, especially death related to addiction. Few people know that Amy Winehouse’s “Valerie” is a cover, so there are several hypotheses out there for why she sang a kind of bluesy, hella bouncy love lyric to someone named Valerie: Valerie is a man’s name in the UK. Winehouse was bisexual. It was about a companion who stopped talking to her because of her drug addiction.
But no one actually knew (real talk; even Genius is clueless). Until now.
The song was originally written and performed by the Zutons, a British band. Valerie Celestial body, a celebrity make-up musician living in New York, told VICE that she used to date the band’s frontman, Dave McCabe, and that the anthem is about her.
So we got a hold of McCabe and interrogated him. “Oh yeah, that’s her,” he confirmed, in a thick Liverpool accent. “She’s a sweet girl.”

Amy Winehouse has reportedly confessed to a friend she is attracted to both genders and has ''had relationships with other women''.
Amy Winehouse has confessed she is bisexual.
The 'Back to Black' singer - who married Blake Fielder-Civil in May 2007 but got divorced in August 2009, after Blake filed for divorce on grounds of adultery - reportedly told a friend she has had relationships with women as well as men.
The 26-year-old star revealed to the pal: "So what? I like girls as well. I have had relationships with other women but that doesn't indicate I don't still love Blake. There is something about creature with a woman that is very satisfying. I don't protect what people think about me being bi - I execute what feels good."
Speaking with Amy's consent the friend told the News of the World newspaper that Amy has feelings for other women and has a crush on Girls Aloud celestial body Cheryl Cole.
She said: "There is nothing restrained about Amy's sexuality. She doesn't hold back and says what she feels. She often talks about other women. Her favourite is Cheryl, who she really fancies. M
